It is used for the prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the veins of your legs), which may lead to pulmonary embolism (clots occurring in the blood vessels of your lungs), in patients who have undergone hip or knee replacement surgery. This drug also reduces the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation(AF).
